John Adams knew it in 1765. It’s even more true today.
Most of us know very little about the U.S. Constitution — and even less about what it actually means. That gap isn’t harmless. In a representative democracy, citizens who don’t understand their own founding principles can be misled, manipulated, or talked out of rights they don’t even realize they have. Every election, we vote on politicians and policies shaped by constitutional questions — search-and-seizure limits, free speech, executive power, states’ rights — often without the knowledge to evaluate what’s really at stake.
Schools aren’t filling the gap. Where the Constitution is taught at all, it’s usually presented as a dusty historical artifact — something that happened a long time ago that doesn’t relate to modern times, not the dynamic document that governs every one of us right now.
What the Constitution Center Is Building

The Constitution Center exists to close the knowledge gap — not with another textbook, but with real tools people will actually use.
Our goal is to build a full online portal of constitutional education: primary documents, scholarly analysis, and video explanations that make sense of complex constitutional principles in plain language. It’s designed for real classrooms, with in-depth lesson plans and course outlines for multiple grade levels, so teachers can bring the Constitution to life without having to build the curriculum themselves.
And because most people won’t sit through a lecture on Article II, we’re meeting them where they already are: video.
The Constitutional Minute
Constitutional Literacy, One Minute at a Time.
“Constitutional Minute” is our short-form YouTube series that takes a single constitutional principle — due process, the electoral college, the commerce clause, whatever’s in the headlines — and breaks it down in a fast, entertaining, genuinely watchable way.
The goal isn’t to make viewers experts in sixty seconds. It’s to spark curiosity — to make someone stop scrolling, learn one real thing about how their government works, and want to learn more. Multiply that by thousands of viewers, and you start rebuilding the “general knowledge among the people” that Adams warned we couldn’t survive without.
